World News Narrows Gap with Nightly News

For the week of August 16th, World News with Diane Sawyer averaged 6.51 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/6 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. World News topped NBC Nightly News on Friday among both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.

Note: George Stephanopoulos anchored World News Monday-Thursday and David Muir anchored the broadcast on Friday. Week-to-week, the 6:30p-7p Households using television (HUT) level was down -1%, while the People Using Television (PUT) levels among Adults25-54 and Total Viewers were down -2%.

Compared to the previous week, World News narrowed the gap with NBC Nightly News among Adults 25-54 by 100,000 (20%).  World News increased its weekly demo and Total Viewing advantages over CBS Evening News by 78% and 5% respectively.

Last week on World News, Chris Cuomo provided an investigation into accusations that for-profit schools were being deceptive in the way they recruited students.  World News extensively covered the recall of over half a billion eggs across the country.  In addition, Lama Hasan and Jim Sciutto filed reports on the floods that have devastated Pakistan and Brian Ross interviewed former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on Friday.
