For the week of August 23rd, World News with Diane Sawyer averaged 6.59 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/6 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. World News was the only evening newscast to experience growth among Total Viewers, delivering 80,000 more Total Viewers compared to the previous week.
Compared to the previous week, the Total Viewing gap between World News and NBC Nightly News was 30% smaller, standing at 640,000 viewers, and the gap among Adults 25-54 was 28% smaller standing at 280,000 viewers. Year-to-year, ABC narrowed the Total Viewing gap with NBC by 16% and by 43% among Adults 25-54. Additionally, ABC’s weekly Total Viewing lead over CBS Evening News was 5% larger standing at 1,700,000 viewers.
Bob Woodruff began reporting 'Katrina: Where Things Stand' from New Orleans on Wednesday, August 25 and continued filing reports throughout the week. On Thursday, August 26, Diane Sawyer had an exclusive interview with Connie Culp, the nation’s first face transplant recipient, as she completes the last phase of her history making procedure.
