Nightline Beats Letterman for 20 Weeks - First Time in 11 Years

NightlineABC News’ Nightline is first among Total Viewers for the week of August 23, 2010 according to Nielsen Media Research.  Also for the week, Nightline posted its best Adults 25-54 delivery in five weeks, tying NBC’s The Tonight Show for first place for the week.   In addition the late night news program continues to rank first for the full 2009-2010 season-to-date, reporting 3.73 million Total Viewers, outperforming both CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman and NBC’s Tonight Show.  This marks the 23rd time this season, ABC has bested NBC in Total Viewers.

For the week of August 23, 2010, Nightline experienced week-to-week growth in all demos and outperformed Letterman among total viewers for the 20th consecutive week, which hasn’t happened since 1999.  Among both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, Nightline climbed +5% week to week.  In Adults 25-54, the growth was +4%.

The Tonight Show was in repeats last week, and Letterman’s Friday average was excluded from the week’s average due to CBS’ NFL coverage.

ABC News’ Nightline is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Bill Weir. John Donvan and Vicki Mabrey are correspondents. James Goldston is the executive producer. The program airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network.
