The BBC has announced the appointment of Dick Meyer as Executive Producer for the BBC’s news services in America.

In this role, Dick will take editorial oversight of the BBC’s award-winning US newscast BBC World News America and the US edition of BBC.com/news website. He will also advise on the strategy and production of other BBC news content in the US, including its 24-hour news channel BBC World News, and BBC World Service radio productions aimed at US audiences. He will work alongside colleagues from the BBC's Newsgathering Bureau, based in Washington DC. This position will also work with BBC News in London, to support coverage of US affairs for audiences in the UK.

Since 2009, Dick has worked as NPR's Executive Editor, with responsibility for managing NPR's worldwide news operation on-air and online. He played a key role in expanding NPR’s digital journalism and in integrating broadcast and digital newsrooms. He joined NPR in 2008 as editorial director for digital media.

Before joining NPR, Dick was editorial director of CBSNews.com and prior to this worked as a producer for The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, in Washington, where he focused on political and investigative reporting.

He is the recipient of an Alfred I. du Pont-Columbia University Award (1998), an Investigative Reporters and Editors Award (1998) and a Sigma Delta Chi Society of Professional Journalists Award (1998). He graduated from Columbia University in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in religion and from the University of Oxford in 1982 with a master's degree in politics.

Dick will take up his new role early in February 2012.
