The world's leading business information source, media conglomerate Thomson Reuters is to dive into the world of business television news with the launch of their own TV channel. Pitted to compete against the likes of CNBC, Bloomberg and Fox Business, and in an already crowded market, the move is being seen as 'ambitious'. But with technology rapidly developing in the digital television and internet industries, the executives seem willing to take the challenge.
The launch of the channel, which is expected to be primarily on cable networks in the US, and worldwide on the internet, could come as soon as January 2009 according to reports in the British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph. It is also understood that the company, which shed 140 editorial staff only last May, would create 50 new posts specifically for the channel.
