The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2009 got underway today, with the opening sessions featuring apprearances from Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Hans-Rudolf Merz, Klaus Schwab, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Michael S. Dell, Carlos Ghosn. The business news networks also kicked up their coverage from Davos, albeit not so smoothly to start with for some!

With all the business networks reporting that there is a sombre, and anxious feeling around this years summit, particularly with the absense of a wide range of CEO's from struggling companies, Alexis Glick from Fox Business had some other problems to deal with even before arriving in Davos. She wrote on her blog, that her lift from the Airport in Zurich to Davos wasn't exactly what she expected having broken down en-route with a flat battery, and not getting into Davos until the early hours of this morning (European time). She didn't hang about getting onto the reporting bandwagon however, starting her series of interviews with influential CEO's and business leaders at 9am Davos time (3am in New York).
It appears that Fox Business have hired a callet or apartment to house their make-shift studio and interviewing area, just as they did last year, with a lovely backdrop of the town of Davos and the mountains surrounding it.
It was a very similar sitauation over at the CNBC camp, interviewing for all intents and purposes, the same bunch of CEO's and business leaders from their make-shift studios which appear to be, again, in an apartment or a spacious balcony in a hotel. From an purely observational point of view, it would appear that both CNBC US and CNBC Europe are using the same facilities. Makes sense mind you, would be both silly and expensive to send two technical crews over.
Thomson Reuters are providing all of the footage from the forum, so the networks are showing a lot of the same stuff. In all honesty, you could watch one interview on CNBC and then plausibly see pretty much the same interview again on Fox Business, and then again on Bloomberg.
It is good to see a more general news presence this year at the World Economic Forum, with many networks such as CNN, the BBC, and Sky News also in attendance.
