This October, The Gateway visits Incheon International Airport in South Korea to examine the concept of the ‘Aerotropolis’ – the airport city.
Incheon sits on a man-made island in theYellow Sea. With over 33 million passengers travelling through this hub, the airport is planning to expand further and develop its own air city.
Host Becky Anderson crosses one of the world's longest bridges to New Songdo, a $35 billion investment just fifteen minutes away from the airport. The Songdo International Business District is only 40% complete but it's already home to 18.000 people – and counting.
From Incheon airport, a third of the world's population is within range of a 3 ½ hour flight. The programme investigates the second biggest international airport for cargo tonnage as it boasts the world’s fastest security process and pioneers the use of cloned sniffer dogs.
