Building on its content partnership with TED, a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, tonight at 8:50 p.m. (ET) CNN.com exclusively will live stream 2010 TED Prize winner Jamie Oliver’s talk in which he will reveal his one wish to change the world. Part of CNN.com’s strategy to grow its Opinion section and present thoughtful commentary, the live video stream of the talk will be available globally from the CNN.com homepage and at www.CNN.com/live1.
As part of the TED Prize, Oliver, celebrity chef and international nutrition advocate, has been granted $100,000 and the opportunity to present his wish to change the world at the TED2010 conference, “What the World Needs Now,” in Long Beach, California held Feb. 9-13, 2010. Oliver is the 16th winner of the TED Prize, which was established in 2005. Prior winners include Bill Clinton, Bono, E.O. Wilson, Karen Armstrong, Cameron Sinclair and Dave Eggers. Last year’s prize was awarded to ocean explorer Sylvia Earle; Jill Tarter, who directs the SETI Institute’s Center for SETI Research; and Jose Abreu, founder of El Sistema, a method of using music teaching to bring about social improvement.
In addition to watching the live TED Talk on CNN.com, online users are encouraged to follow TED on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TEDTalks or via Facebook at www.facebook.com/TED. CNN’s Twitter feed dedicated to technology news and information, @CNNTech, also will provide updates from TED2010.
In October 2009, CNN.com partnered with TED to launch a new video commentary feature in the site’s Opinion section called TED Talk Tuesdays. Each Tuesday, CNN.com features a talk from a TED conference along with an exclusive text piece that can be found at www.CNN.com/TED.
