CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 Explores the Church of Scientology’s Leadership

Anderson Cooper 360In a special series beginning Monday, March 29th, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360° takes a close and revealing look at the leadership of the worldwide church of Scientology. The week-long series, Scientology: A History of Violence, will examine allegations that Scientology leader David Miscavige has for years beaten, kicked and choked top members of the church. These are allegations the church aggressively denies, saying violence from inside came from those making the claim.

Anderson Cooper will speak with former, high ranking members from the Church's inner circle, who says the David Miscavige not only carried out, but encouraged the culture of violence at the highest levels of the church management. Cooper will also speak with members who claim extreme hardships, and some say intimidation, the church imposes on anyone who decides to leave and speak out.

Scientology: A History of Violence will air at 10pm ET on CNN and will also air on CNNInternational. Anderson Cooper 360° airs weeknights on CNN at 10pm ET.

False Claims and Why
Why do members of the organization known as the "church" of Scientology have to alter their own "Tech"?
L. Ron Hubbard wrote the policies on "Disconnection". He created the policy on "SP" (suppressive person). The very nature of that is *no one* is allowed to speak to an "SP" or they too will be declared, lose all their loved ones, and that,my friend, is disconnection enforced by the organization known as the 'church' of Scientology: period.
Tommy Davis: You cannot alter "The tech", sorry, dude---that's KSW and you know it.
Thanks CNN smilies/smiley.gif Please do more...not less.

Proof "There is no Disconnection" is false
Why do Scientologists have to alter the truth? A very simple reason: If they don't, they know people will be utterly grossed out by what they consider to be their "religion". Oh sure, they block it out, but deep down, deep down inside, they know.

Just read "Introduction to Scientology Ethics" and it spells out "What is Disconnection" and even "How to Disconnect". Stop trying to trick yourself and others, Tommy Davis. If there was No Disconnection,
why can't ANY of my 30 year "Friends" call me, including my husband of 27 years? "It's their choice"?
I know that one. It gets killed by the absolute proof that as soon as people leave Scientology, they re-hook up with all the people they had to disconnect from, while still "In".

Thank you, CNN. Please do more on this, including the references by L.Ron Hubbard. He created "SP/Disconnection"--people need to hear the facts, imnsho. My best smilies/smiley.gif

CNN's Anderson Cooper exposes Scientology's untruths
Anderson Cooper is a very well respected journalist, he wouldn't waste his time if their wasn't some sort of truth behind the allegations from so many ex-members of Scientology speaking out about the violence ongoing in their Church for over 30 years.

Surely there are some intelligent Scientologists who may be able to wake up and logically see that this religion was created by a disturbed individual such as Ron L. Hubbard in 1954.
Don't they get it.....? 1954!!
1954 . . . . 1954!!!!!!
Seriously how can any religion that was created in 1954 seriously have any conscious principles of work upon oneself for the betterment of mankind without lining their pockets with others money.
Many religions throughout the world have been in existence for hundreds or thousands of years.
Sadly Scientology is a sleeping destructive and evil manifestation that has nothing to with love, faith or religion.
Scientology is evil at its worst with predatory behaviour against gullible and easily manipulated human beings seeking to belong to a church that is under the guise of a religion or church which is solely run for money making purposes.
How else have they become so wealthy and a destructive in so many peoples and ex-scientologists lives.
Look at the examples of David Miscaviage and Tommy Davis - would anyone in their right mind seriously look up to these men as enlightened and compassionate human beings especially when they appear to have NO spiritual integrity whatsoever?
And don't forget, watch out if you wish to leave Scientology because whatever they have in your auditing file they will freely use it against you in the most vindictive and aggressive way of separating one from other family members.
It would be interesting to see how David Miscaviage and Tommy Davis would survive on $50.00 a week as some of the Sea Org recruits have been expected to work under those conditions without question.
How much is Tommy Davis earning from the church of Scientology?
How much is David Miscaviage earning from the church of Scientology?
Human beings do many unspeakable things in the name of religion and the church of scientology has it down pat on how to manipulate a person with their e-meter and auditing sessions to gather any information on a person’s negative experience in life.
Unfortunately David Miscaviage and his many followers of scientology are asleep and do not even have any inclination on how to wake up from their eternal hellish sleep state.

Anderson tries to reason with Brainwashed Zombies
Keep a camera on the Scientologists and before long their craziness shows. Scientologists are a closed system and their goofy ideas and lies grow more obvious.

Tommy Davis denied the disconnection policy but recently admitted in the NYT that the CULT does disconnect people.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/07/us/07scientology.html

Scientology is not a religion because it doesn’t worship a deity. There is no God in Scientology. As the internet continues to expose the Scientologists, they will eventually have their tax status revoked and be regulated like any business.

Scientology uses mind-control techniques such as lie-detectors, interrogation, blackmail and “disconnection” (shunning of loved ones) to control its members. Scientology strips people of money and autonomy. Ruthlessly attacking all perceived enemies with its Fair Game Policy (enemies can be “tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed), Scientology intimidates witnesses into silence. Scientology is psychologically and physically abusive, as exemplified by their Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF) where Prison camps are run for “Sea Org” members in Los Angeles, Clearwater FL, Copenhagen and other sites. Scientology front groups like Narconon prey on people who have fallen through the cracks of society. Now we can add gay bashing to their crazy agenda.

Scientology assigns sea org members, who often live at Scientology sites and are paid slave wages, to patrol the internet and spread disinformation. They will turn up on every thread. They always play the persecution card and the attack card. Watch the angry reactions of the Sea Orgers when Anderson questions anything at all. They really are a bunch of brainwashed zombies trained to lie and attack.

Thank you Anderson for facing down this abusive cult.

It is likely that if church officials had disclosed the
content of their Tax Compliance Manual, such a ruling would have
been all but impossible: although Miscavige, Chairman of the
IRS-spawned "Church Tax Compliance Committee," may arguably be
the highest ranking member of the Sea Org, a careful reading of
the Tax Compliance Manual strongly suggests that the position,
legally, is meaningless, and that the Sea Org has been
effectively negated as any kind of "power center." The manual
first establishes that:

Scientology's history of violence and manipulation extends back before Miscavige grabbed the reigns
L Ron Hubbard was a con man from day one. He crafted scientology so as to lure prople in and make them believe that only he held the answers. When members disagreed, they were interrogated, overboarded into the sea or made to stay in cold showers, or kicked out, fair-gamed and severed from all ties to friends and loved ones.

When it was clear that he could no longer manage the monster he's created, David Miscavige took over and ran the show on the same path of violence and intimidation. As time went on, as he realized that there was nothing as Hubbard implied, he went and changed all the materials and training and ordered people to pay sums of money for things for things he said were promised by LRH. The violence over the years hs escalated, the reging of money using hardsell and tolitarian tactics on members is at an all time high and the numbers of members is less than it's ever been since the cult became a church in the 60's.

It's a pitiful state but people let it happen because they were afraid to speak up. That's changing now. This show is helping open the doors to getting the truth out. For every single person speaking out on camera, there are thousands to back up the accusations with similar experiences. Thanjks to all who have spoken out, here on this thread, in the show and all over the internet.

how much Scientologists is the leader of the Church of Scientology?
I have a big doubt that the Chairman of the Board David Miscavige is actually occupying the right Chair. I believe a more suitable Chair for him will be the one in the auditing room, and he should be sitting there holding cans. I also suggest him to sit every once in a while in the course room chair as a student. And he should not be allowed out of those chairs until he not only master the Admin Tech, but also spiritually grows up to a position that he had happened to occupy. Please, try to find out from those high ranking ex-members, what is DM case and training level, as it will show if he was really qualified to do the job he assumed.
Remember the episode of DM playing "Musical chairs" game with a top echelon management staff members? (The one described in the "Truth Rundown")The man must be really confused about the chairs! Let's help him to find the right one!

Dear AC,
Thank you for fighting for good people who got lost in their trusting in Scientology feelings that had being used by DM. Since Scientologists in the Church associate the name of David Miscavige with a Scientology itself, considering him a leader of Scientology, they can not fight or even oppose him, believing that by doing so they would oppose The Scientology. It is a shame how little of them can differentiate and understand that the source and the leader of Scientology is L. Ron Hubbard, when D. Miscavige is only self-appointed leader of the Church, leading the Church away from Hubbard's teachings by altering his philosophy, technology and it's application. http://www.friendsoflrh.org/COBvsLRH
I have a suggestion for your research line and questions to ask those high ranking members. Find out if there is a prerequisite requirement for the position of Chairman of the Board that DM occupies (as it is for other positions of the Org Board, according to LRH). I have a reason to doubt his qualifications. When was the last time he was in session? What is his case level? What is his training level? The answers to these questions are going to strike as a lightening from the blue those Scientologists in the church who didn't dare to think so far. It will be like if the leader of the Christian religion was avoiding to pray. I'm not sure if you can find those answers, as they are being kept in a big dark secret, which itself already seems strange to say the list.

The Church of Scientology™ Vs Scientology
The philosophy and religion of scientology is as far from the official church (consisting of the private non profit company called Church of Spiritual Technology, the Religious Technology Center and the Church of Scientology International) as it is possible to get and still be on the same planet.

When Hubbard was alive the church did indeed practice scientology and expanded and helped many people to become more aware as beings. The philosophy was promoted and people were welcomed into the church. Families and family life was promoted and the cost of the services were reasonable.

After his death, however, a new regime took over and all that changed. The emphasis became money dedication to the exclusion of all else and a paranoiac obsession that anyone not with the church was against it. Church members were not allowed to look at the internet or anything the church management deemed contrary to church doctrine. A classic case of violating one of the basic doctrines of the philosophy.

Many of the original followers that assisted Hubbard with his research were booted out. Scripts and books were changed and a very effective 1984 job has been done on the literature. Auditing and training, the basic services the church was set up to deliver, is at a stand still.

Even the wife of Hubbard, a tireless supporter, has become persona non gratis with the church.

The philosophy of scientology is not practiced in the church instead, the church is now a vehicle for making money, not for "spreading the word". It is a misnomer to say that that the church practices scientology because it does not anymore. The only scientology you will find practiced, is outside the church, in the Scientology Freezone.

Most of the current critics are critical of the church, not the philosophy, the basic principles of which they are probably unaware. Many get confused of course and cannot, or do not differentiate between the message and the messenger. In this case it is the messenger that has turned sour.

But what is of concern is that many critics, and the fellow in the street does not have a clue about what scientology is. All one gets is rhetoric and a diatribe of, "its bad", "Scientology kills people" or "scientologists eat babies" and other such nonsense.

No, the church may participate in dubious activities but certainly any self respecting scientologist will not as it goes against the very principles by which he or she subscribes. The bald ignorant statements of, "they be all bad over there" is not a sound approach for adjudicating the merits or otherwise of any philosophy, whether practices by critics or church alike.

Ask people if they know what the ARC triangle represents, or what is a stable datum or what the eight dynamics are and they would not have a clue. How many people actually know what scientology is? Not very many! They do not even know the basics of real scientology.

But their criticism of the church is very different kettle of fish, and very very understandable. In the eye of the freezone scientologist, the church has committed the unpardonable sin of suppressing the original philosophy and, instead, imposed an authoritarian dictatorship totally at variance with the original philosophy.

So it comes as no surprise when the church gets attacked with such vehemence. It is a betrayal after trust. A failure to deliver what was promised. Indeed an active suppression of that which is supposed to be delivered.

Unfortunately the baby often gets thrown out with the bath water and that is what is occurring here.

By contrast, the International Freezone Association (IFA) is committed to keeping alive and practicing the original philosophy as researched and discovered by Hubbard. People participate and become members, supporting the IFA in its purposes of preserving, protecting and promotion the original philosophy.

The International Freezone Association (IFA) is an independent scientology group consisting of scientologists who prefer to stick with the original philosophy and technology as researched and developed by Lafayette Ron Hubbard.

The IFA has become an alternative for the seeker of truth and a second chance at freedom for the true scientologist. A safe haven for scientologists world wide. An alternative to the church that is scientology in name only and practices the original philosophy no more.

There is no hidden agenda here and, although the church may own the trademark to the word scientology, they do not own the trade mark to the truth.

Time to wake up
I know that this series would be very important to see for all Scientologists, but there is little chance of them actually getting to see it.
Why?
Because they are prohibited from reading about Scientology on the Internet and in the newspapers, and they aren't allowed to see anything about Scientology on TV, either.
Why don't they want their people to search the Internet? What is it they are scared of?
That's what this program is all about. I know. I spent five years on the International Scientology headquarters, close to Miscavige. Too close.

A note for public Scientologists:

I've met a lot of you, and I know you are good people. I understand what you see in Scientology and I support you completely in your desire to study and use it.

However, the time has come for you to take a deep look at your church's leadership. This time, the critics are fellow Scientologists -- many OTVII's and VIII's. Highly placed in management. Listen to what they have to say. Ask yourself if their stories seem sincere. You may not believe one here or there...but all of them together?

On the other hand, when Tommy Davis says "there is no disconnection" don't you instantly know he is lieing?

Take a look at your orgs -- are they booming? Is making them prettier "expansion"? Are there more PCs taking courses than ever before? Are the events nearly as full as they used to be?

And take a look on the internet -- many answers to your doubts will be found there.

Has Scientology made you more able or not? What are YOU going to do about the current state of affairs?
brendon , March 25, 2010
...
The most amazing thing is that you can do a week of shows on the underside of Scientology and you will still hardly scratch the surface of the topic. The violence in management makes for an entertaining tale, but a more significant story is how the COS ended up with tax exampt status from the IRS AFTER the Supreme Court (in Hernandez) established the COS was in fact more a business than a religion.
brendon , March 25, 2010
It's about the money
AC, David makes a very good point. The techniques technology, processes that exist in Scientology are being presented, pitched and sold as "pure works of L Ron Hubbard". There exist resources on the Internet where much tabulation has been done to compare earlier works by Mr Hubbard to the existing re-worked materials that have been "re-issued" under David Miscavige. These materials, referred to as "the basics" were the foundation of the entire subject all throughout Scientology's formative years and note, during the greatest periods of the church's expansion.

When Miscavige had all of Hubbards original books re-edited and given a facelift, he ordered the mass burning (pulping) of all the old books because "they contained "out-tech" (or inaccurate data). Note that these materials he saw fit to "improve" have been in use by Hubbard himself all throughout the early growth period of the subject. The cost to the ordinary Scientologist to replace his/her basic library of books (requirement) $3000.00

This ongoing campaign by Miscavige clearly shows many changes to the technology, and in my mind constitutes fraud.

More angles to this, Miscavige has profited financially by removing certain limitations Hubbard placed regarding the use of auditing process called "security checking". Miscavige had removed 7 pages of a very important document Hubbard wrote C/S Series 73rb. This then paved the road for new income streams to be created. Scientologist who were auditing on advanced levels are subjected to lengthy and very costly auditing programs that bring the church $30,000 a year in additional income (for EACH person receiving this "service") Under the guise of being the savior of Scientology, over the years he has twisted and manipulated Hubbard's work for financial gain and at the expense and spiritual well being of it's members. These additional auditing programs required of people are similar to the E-meter interrogations he uses to root out thoughts of opposition in his staff members. (who wouldn't have disagreements about being beaten or abused or witness to corruption?)

The degradation they are then subjected to as a result is what I hope to see covered in your upcoming series.

Anderson, I commend you for taking on this brute David Miscavige. He has ruined the repute of Scientology globally, and the lives of literally thousands of good people. To him, they are expendable resources.

"Tip of the iceberg" is an understatement.

Where is Law Enforcement?
As an Ex-Scientologist, I have been writing about the abuses that have gone on in the Church of Scientology for 10 years now. I have seen many "exposes" on Scientology. But nothing is ever DONE about them.

Assault and Battery
False Imprisonment
Fraud
Coerced Abortions
Indentured Servitude
Human Trafficking

...are just *some* of the criminal activities that have been documented by Ex-Scientologists and others who have fled this cult.

Yet law enforcement does nothing about it.

The Church of Scientology seems to be above the law.

Why?

These stories regainding Miscaviage hiting people across the face are good to expose however it is only the tip of the criminal iceburg. The C of S has regularly promoted their religious services as being written only by L. ROn Hubbard when this is a complete inaccuracy. It is shown on www.copyright.gov that the claimanit of the copyrights are the Church of Spirtual Technologyand the author is "author for hire".
This is a flagerant violation that the church needs to address as they are taking hundreds of millions of dollars without accurately verbally informing the parishioners of what they are actually being exposed to.
THe creation of different auditing procedures that the church now undertakes is equivalent to practicing psychology without a license.

Dear Mr. Anderson,
I am looking very much forward to your report. Over the years I saw a lot anti-SCN stuff on the media.

Getting to know the full truth only recently, I realize that it was all pale in comparison to the real scene around Mr. Miscavige.

I like Scientology, because it helped me a lot personally - and that will never be taken away from me, ever.

So, seeing Mr. Miscavige exposed (hopefully in full!!) how he perverts the subject to the utmost, fills me with deep satisfaction and hope for the future. Scientologists repost
This is a message to the public Scientologists wondering what to make of all this.

A lot of people care a great deal about the abuses that are conducted in the name of Scientology. This has never been about hating a religion. We should all be free to believe what we want to believe. But we are not free to hurt, we are not free to harm, or disconnect children from their parents, or subjugate people, or threaten or bully people, or take endless money.

There have been so many revelations made, so many investigations, so many ex-Scientologists speaking out, so many ex Sea-Org members campaigning to rescue those still in, so many brave people willing to face the threat and menace of the Church.

It's time to wake up guys. We can only take a horse to water so many times, we can't make you drink.

Why don't they want you to search the Internet? What is it they are scared of?

The violence at the top levels of Scientology is just a manifestation of the pervasive dehumanizing treatment which staff and members have been going through for many many years, even when L Ron Hubbard was around running things.Too many scientologists have died way too young, some having committed suicide because they could never live up to the demands or expectations or the consequences of having made wrong choices underess which only benefited the church's pockets or statistics. Better Than the Best & Worst Than the Worst
Scientology is as good as any other self improvement practice in the world - maybe better. I have studied it and practiced it for over 20 years, and so has my wife. That said, the pervasion of the teachings are far beyond misinterpretations. Period!
Just as gunpowder and medicine can be used in a bad way, Scientology management can be compared to the likes of Hitler, only worse.
Did they have bad intentions from the beginning, or have they just lost their way and started implementing one unworkable solution after the other one? This is no different than a basically good guy covering up his mistakes for fear of (whatever,) who ends up being a multiple murderer.
Who knows?
But it does not really matter at this point, as the outcome is the same. Destruction of personal freedom for people who get involved, except if they are for some reason “above it all,” simply look at the data provided (data by LRH) and use it as they see fit.
I think it was Accenture (the consulting firm which got endorsed by tiger Woods) who had a very applicable ad in many airports around the world, "Five percent is data - eighty five percent is interpretation.”
Herein lays the secret of whether LRH was the greatest friend, or someone who started a cult of mass destruction.
Personally, and many people I know, believe that he was a great friend, but even with that said, "Worshiping him would never be good, and I do not believe he wanted it.”
One of LRH’s biggest teachings for anyone getting involved (hopefully not in the official church as it stands right now) is to take the datum of "what is true for you, is true for you" to his/her heart.
It is this particular datum that the church’s management is crushing faster and faster by the day!
I hope this helps.

disconnection
My own family was literally torn apart for over 25 years at great emotional cost because of the "disconnection policy" in Scientology. Scientology Public Relations talking head Tommy Davis has spoken on national television about the churches "position" which supposedly supports "the family as a cornerstone in today's society". This is all public relations damage control spin. If you were to coax every single Scientologist or staff member to secretly and honesty disclose whether they personally, or knew of someone, who was pressured to "disconnect" from a family member, you would find it to be VERY widespread. Matter of fact, it's considered "normal". The reasons it is condoned by so many is due to "cognitive dissonance".

(Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously. The theory of cognitive dissonance proposes that people have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance by changing their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors, or by justifying or rationalizing them. It is one of the most influential and extensively studied theories in social psychology.)

It is PART OF THE CULTURE of a contemporary Scientologist. It is "trained in" over a long period of time. It is not unlike certain customs that tribes in remote parts of the world which have that would be considered abhorrent to our society in the main.

Because it is SO ingrained, it is hard for the average Joe Scientologist to see it for what it is.

And that is this.

"Disconnection" (in Scientology) is loosely defined as an action a person can take on his/her own volition to reduce stress by distancing themselves from people who may be creating harm for them. This includes the right for that person to sever ties completely if necessary.

I would like to add my own understanding of how this policy is being used and has been used on thousands and thousands of people over the decades.

Disconnection is "that social control mechanism that utilizes threats, fear of loss, and the manipulation of ones natural love, affinity allegiance for anyone such as a mother, father, brother or sister, friend or even professional associations (financial loss) in order to bring into compliance that Scientologist who would potentially create trouble or expose the abuses and unethical practices of any part of the Scientology organization".

The practice of disconnection is touted as a "remedy" and for spiritual assistance. In fact, in many cases it does not result in the bettering of the situation of the person involved at all. It's easier to "disconnect" from someone than face up to interpersonal problems and solve them. Scientology actually has tools to do that, and this inconsistency is curious to say the least.

Disconnection mainly serves to marginalize those who would threaten to expose these abuses in the first place. Scientologist on Facebook are contacted daily to "unfriend" friends and associates who have openly left the church. This pressure is coming from within the church itself and your average Joe Scientologist would face intense scrutiny and even be forced to donate money to the organization as an amends for being "reasonable" about having connections with anyone 'disaffected".

These are just more examples of how current managers in Scientology create enemies for subject itself.

Contrary to comments made here by well meaning Scientologists on this subject, Scientology cannot correct itself. It is a monster eating it's own tail.

With each opportunity Tommy Davis has to spin these accounts of people who finally have the nerve to step forward, the monster is being seen for what it really is.

Tommy Davis, I encourage you to please continue doing what you have been doing in response to these revelations and reports. I commend you for making our work to expose Miscavige that much easier. And, we look forward to the day when you find your conscience and join with us.

Exposing Abuse inside Scientology
Thank You CNN and all other media outlets for exposing the abuses within scientology. This organization has gotten away with abusive practises for far too many years, both physically and mentally.

For those that think it started with David Miscavige, they couldn't be more wrong. It started with L. Ron Hubbard. In fact the writings of L. Ron Hubbard are the very ethos of why abuse is so rife in scientology and especially the Sea Organization.

What church has a sea org, what church has a Master at Arms? Way back in the 60s when I was a child in the Sea Org, a Master at Arms from the ship the Apollo, Hubbards Flagship came and threatened me to never speak out about anything I had heard or wittnessed. I never did until recently. How many other people were put in the same position? How many people have stayed silent out of fear of retribution?

This same organization promotes human rights, what a farce.

Don't forget about...
...the other abuses rampant in the Church of Scientology. Not just adults, but children are forced to work long hours at manual labor for no pay. They are kept out of public schools to further indoctrinate them. Don't forget to mention the practice of "regging", where Scn parishioners are subjected to hard-sell techniques to purchase the same books over and over, or asked to raise their credit card limits to purchase course after course. Don't forget to mention the attacks on journalists that have tried to cover this group. Please mention as many SCN front-groups as you can: WISE, ABLE, The Way To Happiness, Applied Scholastics, the Ashland Springs Hotel, and others. If you can, please cover the many suicides of members, like Ed McBride, or Rex Fowler, on trial for murdering his non-SCN employee. Please cover the fact that Dianetic theory has been repeatedly disproven and only continues today as a "religious practice", not science. Touch on Hubbard's violence and flight from justice. There is sooooooo much to cover in this group that you could conceivably spend two weeks of shows covering it and it still would be just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure you've been to whyweprotest dot net, right, AC?
Honestly, after two years of researching and protesting the abuses of this group, I feel like most news outlets have just barely scratched the surface of what goes on at "Gold Base". Lots of luck, and expect us. (to watch your broadcast, that is)

Was in it for 47 years
I was in Scientology from its very beginnings and it is a great tool of life. HOWEVER, I have witnessed physical and verbal abuse through the many years. It is intended to give freedom of choice and spiritual freedom. Miscavige is the antithesis of the ideals of Scientology. I was told not to communicate with my husband when he was kicked out and when I was told to leave a few years ago, they wanted my brother to disconnect from me and all of the friends I had made over the years can no longer talk to me because they fear being kicked out too. Miscavige is a true suppressive person, someone who is fighting enemies of some long ago past and sees anyone as those enemies. He betrayed the Founder, which can be researched on th internet. There exists a policy written by Ron that says a corrupt Executive can be removed from post. An executive is supposed to have high ethical standards. Miscavige is a puny being with major mental problems.Thank you Anderson! Now the world will know and the good decent people who really want to help others will be free to do so without fear of harassment. Ron intended the Tenets to be used freely. He said it belongs to us forever. Miscavige only sees this to make money. The rest of us see it as a tool to help others.

This is great, Anderson. So glad you're taking on the cult. I believe they've finally learnt that suing for defamation doesn't work for them - because they keep losing those law suits and more evidence of the dark side of Scientology goes on the record.

I was pressured by Scientology sales directors (registrars) to make highly risky unsecured loans based on misleading information in the thousands of dollars to fellow members so that weekly requirement/sales quotas could be met.

I have personally been subjected to unethical practices that resulted in thousands of dollars of mine being wasted while I was trying to advance spiritually as a public (non staff) Scientologist. I condoned it and reasoned it away at the time because I was under the threat from the organization that if I objected, I would lose contact with my ALL family members.

Yes, I was able to witness some of the horrors that others like Marty Rathbun Amy Scobee and Marc Headley have been written about. Because I wish to protect the health and well being of some old friends who are still subject to retaliation, I choose to not comment on how or where I was, but I can say I was able to observe a climate of INTENSE hostility fear intimidation and tension that was present when Scientology International management was in the vicinity where I worked. You could literally cut it with a knife.

I witnessed brutality and extreme hostility exacted upon junior Scientology staff members by upper International management officers directly under David Miscavige. I witnessed David Miscavige holding his hand like he was shooting a pistol at someone because of an error that was made, and I vividly recall the fixed evil glare in his eye as he made the cocking and firing motion with his hand and the smile that came across his face after wards.

This incident I witnessed myself, directly involving the leader of the entire Scientology organization interacting with a non-staff public Scientologist.

I have never spoken openly about this until now. CNN is providing the opportunity for those who have been abused by the church of Scientology, as directed and micro-managed by David Miscavige, to provide first hand information to a world wide audience.

L Ron Hubbard wrote in a policy, the list of gradually increasing actions that can be taken (ethics gradients) about any non-optimum situation. One of these gradients includes "speaking derogatorily to others" in this case, about abuses of church management.

I would like to prevail upon my friends still in Scientology to consider this upcoming report on CNN from that perspective.

There is a climate of violence, force, threats and extreme degradation that is a method of controlling other people, and this method is set as an example for his junior executives to follow from the very top down by David Miscavige. What Marty Rathbun has described is true for me based on my own observation.

David Miscavige has been referred to as "the little Hitler" by someone who worked very closely with him and has known him for years. (his/her name being witheld out of concern for their safety)

There is a well known principle in Scientology that a person can start behaving and unknowingly take on the personality attributes of a person who utterly defeated them or suppressed them or conquered them. I have observed over a period of many years, many staff members and even public Scientologists take on the "get tough" emotionless uncaring and brutal personality of David Miscavige.

In my opinion and observation, over the many years, that Scientology has changed into a brutal cult based on the direct influence and personality of David Miscavige. I still practice and hold dear to many (not all) of Hubbard's writings, but cannot define myself as a Scientologist anymore because I think the broad definition has changed and the repute of a Scientologist has been tarnished beyond repair.

The good that can be done using Hubbards work has been utterly sabotaged and I hold David Miscavige personally responsible for the poor repute Scientology has earned as a cult of greed, violence and abuse.

Scientologists in the main are very good people trying to help themselves and others. They are in the precarious position of knowing LESS about certain broad aspects of their church's history than any non-member with an internet connection.

This needs to change.

Scientologists are like the catholic priest who when sexually abusing a young girl stated "Iam a priest I can do no wrong"
Hubbard reinvented how as God he could do no wrong & his 1st pope was made in his image.
Scientologists can only mimic Hubbard & do what their 1st pope tells them & cannot because of their retarded minds see what they are doing.

I've been in Scientology for almost 35 years. Whereas any physical abuse was extremely rare before the 80's, it became prevalent after 1982 when David Miscavige took over. I tried writing reports and requesting internal investigations with absolutely no results.
Truth is the real disinfectant and, hopefully, this will help clean up the mess.

Holly,

Yeah, but think of this... So yes, abuse was going on. Doesn't it mean that the internal justice system is flawed if people were allowed to be abused in the sea org, even by "bad apples"? Wouldn't they have been weeded out earlier and not given a chance to abuse someone "50 times" and as viciously as Tommy Davis says?

No matter where you stand, management is flawed.
Termy Dervis , March 24, 2010
This should be interesting
This should be a very interesting series of programs to watch. I will definitely be there.

Being born and raised in Scn until the age of 32, I have had plenty of experiences similar to what has been stated by "disgruntled ex-Scientologists". Yeah right!

2 abortions in the SO myself personally, and the second one was not done right, got complicated and I spent months in and out of the hospital. After several miscarriages, I thought I would not be able to have children. But luckily now at the age of 37, I am pregnant (28 weeks, heading into my third trimester).

I have also known of at least 3 others who got abortions to stay in the Sea Org.

---

And disconnection does not exist? Oh really? Then why was i not allowed to talk to my dad (who walked away from Scn when I was 3) the entire time I was in the church?

And why now will my mother not talk to me, and refused to come to my wedding? Is it a co-incidence that in 2004, when I was booted out of the church, that my mother stopped talking to me?

----

And Tommy Davis (who I know personally, having worked at Celebrity centre myself for 8 years) says a lot of contradictions and really does a great job of poorly representing Scn.

Now he recently states that Scn does not ever use case information in handling any anti-Scn. I believe the word "never" in terms of Scn really means "from this point forward, we won't".

Having been a case supervisor, I also saw the compilations, which are done chronologically, of a person who has disaffected, including things that came up in counselling sessions. These were used to try to fix the situation with that individual, be it threats, intimidation, "auditing sessions", etc.

History of violence
I was a scientologist for 21 years.
I was assaulted four times while on staff in Auckland,
New Zealand and one time as a Sea org member at Flag, in Clearwater Florida.
Also my girlfriend was raped by "The Ethics officer"
here in New Zealand in 1979.
I also personally knew four scientologists who committed suicide...and many who were driven insane.
No one was allowed to implicate scientology to the authorities in any of these cases.

Holly, I've met many people in Scientology who think the way you are programmed to. I was one of them. We were told all these attacks resulted on more people flooding the orgs. This is a lie and Scientology is shrinking. You can observe all this for yourself. The subject has been taking PR torpedo's since the 70's and all because of untoward acts against it's own members backfiring on them. Almost ALL of the original staff at Saint Hill are declared SP by Miscavige. There is so much concrete data to tabulate and consider. I know this is hard on you, I devoted my life to the goal of supporting Scientology and going up the bridge. But the costs along the way are too great. Something has to change and the momentum is now catching up after all these years. The Church of Scientology will not survive this continued escalation of light and exposure. And I hope that something more compassionate kind and wise will take it's place.

About Time!!!
"In addition to violating and abusing its own members civil rights, the organization over the years with its "Fair Game" doctrine has harassed and abused those persons not in the Church whom it perceives as enemies. The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid, and this bizarre combination seems to be a reflection of its founder LRH. The evidence portrays a man who has been virtually a pathological liar when it comes to his history, background and achievements. The writings and documents in evidence additionally reflect his egoism, greed, avarice, lust for power, and vindictiveness and aggressiveness against persons perceived by him to be disloyal or hostile."

If the Church has nothing to hide, why can't it open its doors and let the world in? Transparency brings with it honesty. Secretiveness carries with it good intentions.

I hope this doc isn't a rehashing of "oh it's all DM's fault" because the CoS hatred of everyone existed while LRH was still alive.

The CoS abuses its parishioners in every foul way possible. They threaten those Scientologists who don't tow the line with the horror that is disconnection - forcing families and friends to break of all contact with a potential trouble source (PTS). They believe that problems can be traced to those in your life who have bad intentions and believe the only way to protect yourself from this *bad stuff* is to get away from this PTS; or have them keep away from you. Failure to do so while have you tarred with the same brush and threatened with the same penalty.

The most troubling thing about the Church of Scientology (and I hate smearing the word Church with their name) is that it is the ONLY "religion" where lying is not only condoned but encouraged. And if that's true, how can anything they say be believed without the CoS operation becoming transparent?

Scientologists trapped with their own words.
Holly, the official spokesperson of Scientology, Mr Tommy Davis, has publicly stated that the violence has been occuring for years. He blames it on several high ranking Scientologists. Yet, you deny the violence.

Don't you believe Mr Davis, Holly? Or do you admit that your claimed ignorance of the violence is inconsequential to its proven existence?

Scientologists have been reporting abuse since Hubbard's time, Holly. Plenty of Catholics didn't know about child molestors, just as you claim to not know about abuse in Scientology.

Nice try, though.
Lev , March 24, 2010

The abuse is no secret. Until recently (thanks Anonymous) people were either too afraid to speak up, or realized they'd be offloaded on a street corner with a "freeloader's" bill and the knowledge that all their friends and family still in the cult would never be allowed to speak to them again.
Scientology's latest tactic seems to be attack the messenger. "I used to be a fan of Cooper", "I used to respect the New York Times" blah blah blah.
Meanwhile, millions of people around the world are cheering the fact this duplicitous organization is getting the press they've so richly deserved for nearly 60 years.
France got it exactly right when they convicted Scientology for organized fraud. Soon, they will be convicted of a lot more than that. Count on it.

There is more than the story of violence.........
CNN could dig deeper and expose the emotional cost, the fractured families, the lost fortunes, the shattered lives as a result of Scientology's DISCONNECTION POLICY. The violence topic is a no brainer, these are crimes...but "religious shunning" is a moral issue as are the forced abortions and lies and cover ups for the church's criminal and human rights abuse's. This is an organization presenting itself on the outside as the poster child for human rights and morality, yet the very core of it's management and it's influence as it seeps down the command channels is immoral and self serving and is acting autonomously, NOT according to policy as laid down by it's founder. THIS IS WHAT Scientologists don't seem to care about because it does not affect them directly, until one day, they get shafted. Then they step out on the outside, like me after 30 years, and condemn it. The church is committing fraud and the members are marks who are being convinced they are funding a system prone to systemic failures because "we mend a world with broken straws". It's VERY HARD to face up to the fact you've been screwed. So cut a Scientologist a break, he doesn't have a clue of what's about to hit him. And when he does, he's going to be really pissed. Thats the difference between a Scientologist and an Ex-Scientologist.

I'll give Hubbard one thing: it was an absolutely brilliant move to cloak Scientology in "religion".
1st Amendment protection, the ability to scream "BIGOT!" when anyone questions their abuses, useful as a shield when people inevitably die or are injured by his delusional "discoveries", a way to avoid paying gazillions in taxes and fair wages to the slave workers.
Unfortunately for Scientology, it isn't 1954 anymore. The recent worldwide exposes of Scientology were inevitable, what's surprising is that they were able to continue the con for as long as they did.

You do seem very upset, Sean. Do you really want a school principal to give Scientology Leader, Mr David Miscavige, a good talking-to, to stop him being habitually violent?

Is Mr Miscavige a little violent child, as you imply?

I don't think that's a serious solution to systemic violence at the top level of a church. You, on the other hand, don't think that systemic violence, as described by Scientology Spokesman Mr Tommy Davis is a problem. You must have pretty low expectations for Scientologists and spiritual leaders.

Your solution is to belittle the victims, in the manner of a bully - "Ha, little crybaby. I only hit him a few times." I think you have made your position quite clear. No wonder that attrocities continue when people like you advocate that this widespread abuse and intimidation in Scientology is beneath our notice.

You certainly portray the church in a dismal light. Your attitudes are educational. Keep talking.

Watch this, Scientology undercover report
For anybody interested in seeing a BBC Panorama report on Scientology go to this link. I fuly recommend it, you really would not believe the outright stalking and constant verbal abuse the Scientology cult's leaders gives the BBC reporter, while he IS BEING RECORDED ON CAMERA. He interviews numerous S celebs who call him a bigot aswell. The reporter, John Sweeney, said his neighbours, family members were questioned anonymously on the phone. A man also filmed his OWN WEDDING then fled when he was asked who he was. He questioned a mother who had been "disconnected" by her daughter for three years. Three hours after interviewing her, her daugther turned up, out of the blue, wanting to reconcile. She begged her mum not to use the video.

Sean, you seem to say that systemic violence in the top level of a church is of no concern to you. Yet, in contrast, you are getting mightily theatrically het up about this news being reported.

Church Spokesman Tommy Davis has confirmed that serious violence against top level church executives has repeatedly occured. Don't you believe him?

Even if a culture of abusive behaviour in a church is not newsworthy to you, you shouldn't be so upset that some people are concerned. I don't think we can rely on people like yourself, who ridicule victims, as if they should accept violence as a way of life, to bring such abuses into the light and remedy them.

Thank you CNN!
Thank you CNN for exposing the horrors going on inside! This cult engages in daily abuse and human rights abuses and the world needs to know. This goes beyond just Scientology. The longer that Scientology is allowed to hide behind pretending to be a religion, the more organized criminals are going to start using this tactic. This needs to stop now!

I was in for 30 years, and yes there is good and there is bad. The good is not outweighed by the bad, however justified in the minds of many "good" Scientologists. My message to my old friends still in, IT'S NOT ALL LIES! There are too many people speaking out telling basically the same story. Take responsibility by first informing yourself free from the bias of the "ethics officers" (thought police) and start looking. There are many credible people with good intentions speaking out. WAKE UP.

Thanks Anderson, I have waited years to see mainstream media take on these issues and "Boy they are now!!" All those that have been through Scientology and are now out are the lucky one's. There's many more inside that cant get out or cant make normal decision that need to be set free! Thanks again!

Crimes
What these whistleblowers are speaking about are crimes. the Church has a multitude of lawyers on retainer to keep these people either on th grounds under guard, or simply undergaurd. By the time the specific individuals feel strong enough to speak out, statute of limitations has run out.
The Whistleblowers speaking out now have a lot of courage and should be listened to, not just blown off as unreliable people.

[removed]ywXc();void(0);This brainwashing cult, and its mission to "clear" the planet and Universe was a nightmare from the time Hubbard discovered that his fabrication called "Dianetics" in Astounding Science Fiction magazine was taken seriously by gullible idiots.

Ever since then, they've been chomping at the block to brainwash everyone, take their money, and start disposing of critics, quietly and without sorrow.

Time to start slicing this fruitcake cult to pieces, with the TRUTH.

THE TRUTH IS FINALLY COMING OUT THANK GOD!!!!!!

It's time to wake up
This is a message to the public Scientologists wondering what to make of all this.

Google is your friend. Search, research, decide what's true for you. It's time to wake up.

I am really looking forward to this show and I'm glad CNN's Anderson Cooper has taken on what few dare to address. Much needed expose' about a terrible organization I and so many others are grateful to have left and lived to tell the truth about.

"Why do I sense that this CNN program is yet another sensationalism about Scientology."

What sort of "sensationalism" are you referring to exactly? The story in the New York Times from two weeks ago? And if so, why not mention what you are referring to?

If anything, the press is running scared given these are serious crimes and lots of people are alleging the exact same thing. Yet they are only now hitting the mainstream press. If anything, the "Church's" policy of attacking and silencing critics has worked.

Even if there is a media backlash, it was well deserved(wikipedia "guardian's office operations"); not that you will find any COS officials suscribing to notions of fairness.

Scientology: A History of Violence
I'm an old timer with this cult. As previously stated, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I've been hearing about Miscavage for years, beating, kicking, slapping and other physical abuses. This is a "church" with Satanic and black magic roots. To put it bluntly, this group is a, mind bending, brainwashing, family destroying, financial ruining, first amendment hating, US government hating (just like Al Qaeda!)criminal cult. And that's being kind. They are trying to infiltrate city, state and federal levels of government and have done so already. If your child comes home with a little book entitled "The Way to Happiness," that is this cult trying to get your child to have a favorable impression of their founder, L.Ron Hubbard so later in life they can suck your child into their world. And if you disagree? Your child will be told to cut off all contact with you! Seriously! I'm not kidding. As bad as you think they are, I can tell you from experience that they are one thousand times worse.

Oh, and the previous post saying the "allegations are fabricated?" Josh must be part of this cult because they certainly are not "fabricated." Go to: wwww.xenu.net

Unfortunately this is low hanging fruit
David Miscavige slapping around a few of the henchmen in his inner circle like Rathbun and Rinder is embarrassing but not really that big of a deal compared to Scientology's treatment of people who are staff or have signed billion-year employment contracts to live and work for the church full time for $50/week for 7day work weeks and 16hr days. Women employees are pressured to have abortions to avoid staffing shortages. Some even get sent to a "secret"labor camp inb So.Cal when they are perceived to have failed the group or are suspected of harboring and ill will towards the church.
Religion is free, Scientology is neither.

Scn has always been a destructive cult.
Ask any old timer.
The only one's who seem to be unaware of this are the "brainwashed" Scientologists who are NOT allowed to read any objective reporting. They consider any critic evil, they call them "suppressives".

Actually these allegations are rooted in truth and are just the tip of the iceberg regarding abuses within Scientology that got them indicted of fraud in France, and declared a criminal organization in Germany.

If anything, the media hasn't exposed them enough until the past couple years, due to Scientology's massive legal battle to keep their name out of the news.
