CNN's Prime Time anchor Campbell Brown is to leave the network after requesting that she is released from her contract early. It is currently unknown when she will leave the cable news network.
The New York Times' Brian Stelter broke the news on his Media Decoder blog, writing;
Ms. Brown was on vacation earlier this month, but she was back anchoring her eponymous program on Monday. It is unknown if she will anchor on Tuesday.
Her exit was first reported by the Web site Mediaite, which said that “she has agreed to stay on and anchor the 8pmET hour until a replacement is found.”
Ms. Brown was anchoring in arguably the toughest time slot in cable news, 8 o’clock Eastern, the same time that Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly and MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann go head-to-head. Compared to those opinion-oriented shows, her news show was largely an afterthought, at least in the nightly ratings match-up.
