Fox News announced on Tuesday that it has extended the contract of Bret Baier, the presenter of Special Report, and the network's chief political anchor, for 'multiple years'.
Bret Baier stepped into the shoes of Brit Hulme who stood down from his role as presenter of Special Report and as the network's chief political reporter two years ago, however Hulme still occasionally appears on the network.
Brian Stelter of the New York Times writes;
Mr. Baier will remain the anchor of “Special Report,” the channel’s 6 p.m. newscast. Fox did not specify the number of years of the new contract, but in a news release called it a “multiyear deal.”
Already, Fox has signed Shepard Smith, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren through the next presidential election in 2012. The most prominent host with a contract expiring before then is Glenn Beck; his deal is believed to be up at the beginning of 2012.
Mr. Baier co-anchored Fox’s midterm election night coverage in November, a month when his nightly “Special Report” ranked No. 2 across the entire channel, behind only “The O’Reilly Factor.” The program averaged 2.4 million viewers during the month.
