WSJ Creates New Corporate Team

Wall Street Journal managing editor Robert Thomson sent out the following e-mail to the staff on Thursday:

“We have created an all-new New York corporate group and appointed the inimitable, almost all-new Andrew Dowell, currently the Newswires global news editor, to lead the group. In this post, Drew is charged with bringing together coverage from an array of Journal bureaus and forging a focused team that will be responsibile for some of our biggest and most important corporate beats, including General Electric, IBM, telecoms, Procter & Gamble, New York retail and fashion, and recruiting and management. The aims are to strengthen co-operation between Newswires and Journal reporters, and to add urgency and energy to our corporate coverage.

“An 11-year veteran of Dow Jones Newswires, and an original hubbite, Drew was hired in 1998 as a stringer in Cairo for the wires. In 2002, he became managing editor of the energy service and, in 2005, was appointed deputy managing editor of the Dow Jones News Service, overseeing the corporate news beats and directly running coverage of financial services. On the Hub, Drew has been central to the improved coordination between the wires and the Journal, and done stints on the corporate desk, on Page 1, and in the marketing group. Dowell is a 1989 graduate of Emory University in history and a 1994 graduate of Georgia State University in communications/journalism. He’s been at Dow Jones for the past decade.
