News International has announced that the new www.thetimes.co.uk and www.thesundaytimes.co.uk websites have now gone live.
Today’s launch marks the start of a free trial period for registered customers following an initial eight-week registration process. The preview will be available to anyone who registers.
thetimes.co.uk and thesundaytimes.co.uk launch with a host of new digital features to enhance coverage and encourage interactivity. The launch of the new sites, which will replace the combined site, Times Online, marks the first time that each title has had a dedicated online presence.
James Harding, Editor, The Times, said: “We are delighted to be able to unveil www.thetimes.co.uk. From today, all readers who register will have access to our award-winning journalism, with new digital features that offer an unparalleled level of coverage and interactivity with our journalists. The site will include live interviews with the people who shape the news and exclusive video - giving readers the opportunity to get more from their favourite sections. This is just the start. We will continue to add new features to ensure that the innovation that has been central to The Times for 225 years continues into the future.”
John Witherow, Editor, The Sunday Times, said: “This is an exciting day for The Sunday Times. For the first time, www.thesundaytimes.co.uk will give readers access to all their favourite sections and writers online with exclusive content and digital features to encourage them to come in and take part. Our Culture Planner will let customers move straight from reviews to book tickets while the Spectrum Gallery will showcase the best of the Spectrum photography from around the world. The exclusive launch videos from Alison Jackson give a taste of what is to come. There is much to look forward to.”
From June, a charge of £1 for a day or £2 for a week will give customers access to both sites. Access to the digital services will also be included in the seven-day subscriptions of print customers to The Times and The Sunday Times.
