Simon Hoban is the new host for Drivetime on BBC Radio Merseyside, presenting from 5.00 to 7.00pm on weekdays.
Simon, who is originally from St Helens, was formerly a presenter at BBC Newcastle.
With previous jobs as diverse as working in his dad's meat van in Liverpool and playing piano in a cabaret band, Simon went on to study print journalism at Liverpool Community College. He worked in local papers in Lancashire and Merseyside, before making the move into radio.
After a short stint working in commercial radio, Simon spent nine years reporting and presenting at BBC Newcastle.
On his return home to Merseyside, Simon said: "It's brilliant, really exciting. The city has changed immeasurably. I visited quite a lot, so I've seen some of the growth, but coming back, it's really hit me. It's vibrant and buzzing.
"On the show, I'll be covering the stories that matter to Merseyside, with a focus on news, sport and entertainment."
Mick Ord, Managing Editor of Radio Merseyside, said: "It's great to have Simon on board, I'm sure he'll be a big hit with our listeners. He's a really good interviewer with a biting wit and a good knowledge of news and sport."
Simon's first show will be at 5.00pm, Thursday 28 January 2010, on BBC Radio Merseyside, 95.8 FM, 1485 AM and DAB digital radio.
