BBC Radio Wales Calls All Knitters to Back the Boys

BBC Radio WalesBBC Radio Wales' Jamie Owen and Louise Elliott are urging the people of Wales to join them with their knitting needles or red scarves to show their support for the Welsh rugby squad during this year's Six Nations Championship.

As part of Radio Wales' Backing The Boys campaign, knitters from across the nation and beyond have teamed up to back the Welsh players by knitting an astounding 4,933 feet and 7 inches of red scarf (to date), which makes it taller than both Snowdon and Ben Nevis!

The next target is 5,280 feet – a mile long. But, if it is to keep growing, it needs even more Wales knitters to get involved as the scarf goes on tour next week.

The famous scarf will be visiting Queen Square Market, Wrexham (1 March), Ysgol y Borth, Menai Bridge (2 March), Aberystwyth Arts Centre (3 March), Christ College, Brecon (4 March) and Ebbw Vale Festival Park Outlet (5 March) on Jamie And Louise's Big Red Scarf tour from 9.00am to noon.

Louise said: "We'd like to thank those who've already backed us with our campaign and, for those of you who haven't yet, this is your chance!"

Anyone can come along to join in with the knitting – needles, and even tuition, will be provided.

Linking in with Radio Wales' Wales Music Day, Mike Peters – best known as the lead singer of The Alarm – will be performing live during the morning of Monday 1 March.

If you can't make it, listen to the show at bbc.co.uk/radiowales, or on 95.4 FM, 657 MW and digital TV.
