Sky News Papal Coverage Outshines BBC Breakfast on Sunday

Pope Benedict XVI visits the UKSky News continued its non-stop coverage of Pope Benedict XVI's state visit to the UK on Sunday morning, in sharp contrast to the BBC's Breakfast programme.

The BBC's Sunday morning news programme, broadcast on BBC One as well as the BBC News Channel featured some short reports from the site of a Mass held by the Pope in Birmingham's Cofton park, but opted for pre-recorded segments including the technology programme 'Click'.

Sky News on the other hand, apart from a brief newspaper review and a sports bulletin, broadcast blanket coverage with Colin Brazier live at Cofton Park, and with coverage of the Pope leaving his Wimbledon residence to travel by helicopter to Birmingham.

Another winner for Sky News was that all of its blanket coverage was simulcast in HD on the Sky News HD channel.  BBC Breakfast was broadcast only in standard definition.
