The Weather Channel today named Jennifer Rigby director of multimedia content. In this newly created role, Rigby will coordinate all content generation, breaking weather news and severe weather coverage across The Weather Channel properties including the network, online and mobile.  She will focus on helping to bring viewers and users immediate information 24/7 and be a part of the team which sets the editorial direction and maintains editorial continuity across the platforms. Rigby will report to Helen Swenson, vice president of live programming for TWC and Matt DeGanon, senior vice president of weather.com and consumer application software.  

In making the announcement, Swenson said, "Our top priorities are not only to provide accurate, dependable forecasts and the best comprehensive coverage of severe weather, but also to produce compelling and relevant weather stories across all of our platforms.  Jennifer will be central to those efforts."

Rigby has more than 25 years of television experience, most recently with leading industry consultant SmithGeiger, providing strategic direction on news gathering, internet, research and social networking for local television clients as well as The Weather Channel.  Prior to that, she spent 12 years with Cox Television at stations throughout the country. This includes serving as news director for WSB-TV, the Atlanta market's news leader, where she expanded the station's weather department and technology and transitioned the staff into becoming regular contributors to the station's Web site. 

Previously, Rigby served as news director for Pittsburgh's WPXI-TV, which was the No. 1-rated station during her tenure, and she oversaw all aspects of coverage on the Pittsburgh Cable News Channel.  Rigby has also served as news director at WHIO in Dayton.  During her tenure at various stations, she led newsrooms that created content for both television and the internet.

Rigby began her career as a producer in Salt Lake City and held roles of increasing responsibility at stations in Fresno and Phoenix.  She is an award-winning journalist who has been a part of teams that have received Emmy Awards, Murrow Awards and multiple AP Best Newscast recognitions.  

A native of Salt Lake City, Rigby is a graduate of the University of Utah and lives in Atlanta with her family.
