Kelly Cass

Kelly CassKelly Cass is an on-camera meteorologist at The Weather Channel®. She first appeared on air at The Weather Channel in January 2000.

Before joining The Weather Channel, she had been the morning weekday meteorologist at WRGB-TV, the CBS affiliate in Schenectady, NY, a position she held for seven years. While working at WRGB, she was awarded the New York State Broadcasting Award for "best storm coverage" during the blizzard of '93.

Among the special reports presented by Cass for The Weather Channel was a feature about being selected for a flight in an F-A 18 jet of the "Blue Angels" unit of the U. S. Navy.

A native of Poughkeepsie, she has a special interest in lake effect snow. She also is fascinated by all extreme weather including tropical storms. "I have always been fascinated by weather (beginning) as a child. While in college, I decided to focus on TV journalism and study meteorology as well. Weather is something we all experience and talk about, so I decided TV weather was for me," Cass said.

She began her career as associate producer, and later, weeknight weather weathercaster at WTZA-TV (now WRNN), an independent station in Kingston, NY.

Cass earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Adelphi University. She also holds a certificate of international study from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. She holds the Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association, a broadcast meteorologist certificate from Mississippi State University, and is a full member of the American Meteorological Society.

When not watching the snow fall, Cass is active in many sports, including soccer, softball and tennis. While in Korea, she studied tae kwon do, achieving her red belt. She and her husband have three young children.
