Paul Goodloe joined The Weather Channel in 1999 after several years as on-camera weathercaster at KSDK-TV in St. Louis, KRIV-TV in Houston, and KSBY-TV in San Luis Obisbo, CA. After majoring in geography at the University of Texas at Austin, Goodloe earned his master's degree in climatology from the University of California at Berkeley.
"I can't believe I'm getting paid for something I enjoy so much!" That's how Paul Goodloe feels about being an on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel. Goodloe says he has been studying the weather and the environment since he was a child.
Goodloe was born and raised in New Rochelle, NY, about 30 minutes north of New York City in Westchester County. Goodloe is a member of The American Meteorology Society, the National Weather Association and the National Association of Black Journalists.
During graduate school, Paul taught classes in meteorology, global environments and environmental science. "Trying to hold the attention of college students while teaching was quite a challenge! The secret I found was to be more conversational. And that's what I try to do here at The Weather Channel," he says.
"I consider my role to be that of an interpreter. I learned to break the science and jargon down into what is relevant to people's lives. It's not about a 'vorticity maximum' - that just means the weather is changing - and what the viewers need to know about this is, "bring an umbrella. Some good advice someone once gave me was - "explain the weather as though you are talking to your mother."
Goodloe was chosen to be featured in the "50 Most Beautiful People" issue of "People" Magazine in May 2001.
Goodloe enjoys skiing, snowboarding, golf, tennis, traveling and spending time with his wife and son.
